ENEMY TERRITORY

View(s):

There was a big sigh of relief when the civil war between the Tamil Tigers and the Security Forces ended in 2009. A leading sports body declared at that time that the time is ripe to engage sportsmen and women from the North and East to national teams as there is quite a lot of talent in those areas. But now six years have passed after the civil war ended. To date those in charge of the sport have made no attempt whatsoever to stage any sort of event in these areas. Are they scared to step into what was an one time ‘Enemy Territory’?

COLD WAR
Apparently there exists a Cold War between two leading institutions. One institution deals entirely on sports while the other is involved in education. These two bodies came into the open when the one dealing with sports matters called for a meeting with the so called ‘educated’ ones. But at the last moment on the instructions of the educated lot the meeting was cancelled. Both are involved in sports programmes and apparently they are doing a good job. But this Cold War could dampen the spirits of both sides, which doesn’t sound so good

TIME FACTOR
The so called educated lots are now planning to have a sports day. The last time they staged such an event a staggering sum of Rs. 20 Lakhs was spent. This happened when the old regime was in charge. This time several former athletes are rallying around the new boss in order to coax him to conduct such an event this time as well. Will the new boss fall for this? After all isn’t there a separate body to conduct such events? Only time will tell!

TRYING TO UPSET PLANS
Now that the year is coming to an end several sports bodies are making arrangements to conduct their annual general meetings. One very popular sports body has made their nominations but secretly several top players have gathered in order to upset their plans. Their grudge is that this particular individual had tried to upset their incomes saying that why should one group benefit from the sport when it can be spread amongst a lot! Will their plan succeed?

START FROM THE TOP
A top ping pong tournament is about to take place in New Delhi. But before even the trials to pick the team has started, the manager and the coach for the tour has been finalised. Followers of the sport, especially parents who are hopeful that their young ones can make the trip are aghast at this move. What the organisers say that it is best to start from the top rather than the bottom that is why the manager and the coach have been named!

ONE MAN SHOW
An official who attended a muscle building seminar in Spain says that Sri Lanka has been given the green light to conduct a top level competition involving musclemen in 2018. The body that is in charge of this particular sport says that they do not know anything about it. But this individual goes around saying that he alone was responsible for getting this competition to be staged in the emerald isle. Could this be a one man show?
