Collapsing commode leads to death
View(s):A coroner’s court inquiry was told that a woman died from injuries due to a commode in the toilet collapsing last Thursday.
The victim was a resident of Kohilawatte, Angoda.
According to the victim’s husband, his wife, Nona Margaret Violet (62) had gone to use the toilet at around 2 a.m. When her screams alerted others, the victim was found bleeding badly following the collapse.
Though she underwent two surgeries after being rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital, she died due to excessive bleeding from injuries on the left buttock.
Dr. Ravindra Samaraweera of the Colombo National Hospital said death was a result of haemorrhage due to sharp force trauma.
City Coroner and Inquirer into Sudden Deaths said death was due to bleeding after the commode collapsed. Constable W.H. Mahinda of Wellampitiya Police led evidence and helped in the post mortem inquiry.
