The Prestantia Chorale presents “Borrowed Tomb” Easter Cantata

View(s):

The Prestantia Chorale, a relatively new choral group, formed in February 2013 under the musical direction of Dr.Priyeshni Peiris Perera will present an Easter choral reflection titled ‘The Borrowed Tomb’ at the Dutch (Christian) Reformed Church, Bambalapitiya, on Holy Saturday evening- April 4 at 6.30 p.m. This event is free and open to all.

The Prestantia Chorale premiered the “Borrowed Tomb” in 2014 and requests were made for a repeat so some new songs have been added this year. The students of the Prestantia Music School will also add colour to this year’s performance. The instrumental section is also extended this time with Dr. Priyeshni P. Perera (piano), Christo Prins (drums), Shenya Napthalie (keyboard synthesizer), Saranga Cooray (cello) and Sachiththa Fernando (violin) and Flute.

The songs intertwine into the story line from the Bible which revolves around a few key characters with spoken dialogues, while the choir takes a major role in communicating the meaning of the story in music, reflecting on the Cross. A short Easter Message will be delivered by Rev. Fr. Pradeep Jesudian. This cantata was performed at the Salem Evangelical Free Church in USA, where Dr. Priyeshni was the pianist.

The Prestantia Chorale was formed with just eight people in 2013 to sing on Easter morning at the Holy Emmanuel Church. At present, the choir consists of 15 passionate singers; Prashanthi Perera, Ranthilini Fernando, Sudarshi Nonis, Pavithra Madapatha, Nayomi Fernando, Sunara Ranasinghe, Praveeni Fernando, Manoj Sanjeewa, Melantha Fernando, Rev. Upul Fernando, Shehan Perera, Janaka Fernando, Wasantha Kumara Geekiyanage, Kalsha Fernando.
