View(s):

In an attempt to regulate private and international schools, the Education Ministry has commenced collecting data of schools, including the number of students, teachers and the subjects taught.

Regulating all schools by the Education Ministry is a policy decision made by the Government in its 100-Day programme, said Education Ministry Secretary Upali Marasinghe

International and private schools both teaching local and foreign syllabuses to students between the ages of 5 and 18, should submit details to the Ministry. The Education Ministry has also released a Specimen form and made it compulsory for schools to send the form before April 20. The Ministry said government approved private schools do not need to submit the form.

School managements are told to attach a copy of their registration and to include details of the registration, while also stating the number of branches and submit data forms for each branch separately.

International schools will be subject to State monitoring, which is in the 100-Day programme to be implemented in April.
