Higher education at low ebb as undergrads prefer protests to lectures

Undergraduates’ protests were a common sight this week, with angry students on streets holding placards, displaying banners and shouting, and sleeping on makeshift platforms.
The Open University’s satyagraha campaign against the increase in course fee topped 100 days on Thursday and was marked with a protest held opposite the University Grants Commission in Colombo.
Protests were also held by Colombo. Kelaniya, Sabaragmuwa and Rajarata University students this week over a number of demands.
