Former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka was promoted to the rank of full Field Marshal by President Mahithripala Sirisena.at a colourful ceremony held at the Defence Ministry grounds in Colombo last Sunday  He was awarded the highest military rank for successfully defeating the LTTE and ending the 30-year-old separatist armed uprising, the government said.
