Pre-school teachers in Batticaloa want the Government to make them permanent.
Some 1,000 Pre-school teachers in Batticaloa on Thursday took to the streets demanding they be absorbed into the Govt. Education service. They marched to the Government Agent’s (GA) office and handed over a petition to GA P.S.M. Charles.
Currently, they are recruited by NGO’s, religious places, Pradeshiya Sabhas and other voluntary organisations.
They said that there were 546 Pre-schools with some 19,000 students.

They further said that, during the previous regime there were attempts to regularise their service, which were unsuccessful.
Eastern Province Pre-school organisations representative Pon Selvanayagam said the Government should implement the proposal made by former chief minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan.
