WPC to spend additional Rs 4,000 per student with WB assistance

The Western Provincial Council will spend an additional Rs 4,000 per child in public schools in the province, WPC Education Secretary M.A.B. Daya Senarath told the Education Times.

He said that, accordingly, some 721,000 students in the WP will benefit as additional amounts will be spent on Educational activities, Library facilities, IT facilities and Sports facilities among others.

He said that, next year, Rs 30,000 will be spent on each student, from the present Rs 26,000.

World Bank funding too will be utilised to supplement this increase, in addition to State allocations.

“The objective is to improve students’ facilities and thereby improve their Educational level,” he said.
