Athena House clinched the overall championship at the annual Inter-House Athletic Meet of Wycherley International School held at the NCC ground in Maitland Place, Colombo. The victors, Athena House outclassed others in contention Apollo, Pegasus and Triton to walk out as worthy winners while carrying away the C.T.A. Schafter Challenge Trophy on offer for the winning House of the Athletic Meet.

Events were worked out to clock-work precision as athletes representing Athena, Apollo, Pegasus and Triton Houses doing their best to finish on top, yet preserving the true spirit of sportsmanship. Ovini Weerasinghe of Athena House was awarded the Best Performer’s Trophy for Girls for her record-breaking performance in discus throw in the Under-17 age group. Nihindu de Silva carried away the Best Performer’s Trophy for Boys. He broke a meet record in high jump in the Under-15 age group to become the best among the boys.

To end the day, a colourful drill display by the Students of Grades 3 to 5 brought life to the day’s proceedings. The traditional march past led by the Hewisi Band of Wycherley saw the respective House squads coming in for the prize distribution, watched by a large gathering of parents, students and school officials.
