Merc volleyball final to be worked off today
Mercantile Volleyball Championship 2014 which was played in three segments at the Youth Centre Courts, Maharagama will come to an end with the finals of three segments (Men’s and Women’s) to be played today at the same venue.
As this is the first time that the tournament was conducted as Super League, Championship and ‘A’ Division a high class of volleyball was produced by all the participating teams and a good quality of sportsmanship was exhibited right throughout the championship.
Earlier at the concluded ‘A’ Division finals VTA Holdings Pvt. Ltd beat MAS Active Leasureline, Katunayake. It was interesting to note that the winners VAT Holding Pvt. Ltd. in their maiden appearance, made their presence felt in mercantile volleyball by entering the finals and emerging champs.
Quantum Clothing were not lucky enough to play in the finals and took the third spot.
Today at 9.00 a.m. the Finals of the Women’s Championship will take place when Brandix Uknits, Mirigama meet MAS Casualline, Mawathagama. Earlier in the match for the third place was won by MAS Unichela (Pvt) Ltd – Linea Clothing, Pallekelle.
In the same segments for men’s final will be played at 11.00 a.m. between SLT Human Capital Solution and Brandix Essentials, Ratmalana.
Brandix Intimate Apparel, Polonnaruwa gained the third place.
At 1.00 p.m. the finals of the Women’s Super League will be worked-off when MAS Intimates Casualline meets Brandix Intimate Apparel, Minuwangoda.
Brandix Intimate Apparel Ltd, Welisara occupied the second-runner-up spot.
The curtain comes down in the 2014 championship with the last event of the day when the Men’s Super League finals between Brandix Intimate Apparel Ltd., Welisara and Textured Jersey Lank PLC takes place at 3.00 p.m.Brandix Intimate Apparel Ltd., Minuwangoda won the battle for the third place.
