Principal of St. Aloysius College retires after 10 fruitful years at the helm

The 15th Principal of G/St. Aloysius College, Galle, D.P.L.S Gunasekera, retired on September 14, after completing 10 years as its head.
Before assuming duties as Principal of St. Aloysius’, he was on the staff of Thalpe Sugathananda Maha Vidyalaya.

During his tenure years as Principal he rendered immense service to the school with his management skills and leadership qualities. He was able to complete many projects for the development of the school, including a new assembly hall, Principal’s quarters and a van for the College.

Under his astute leadership, a student came first in the Biology stream, at the GCE Advance Level (A/L) in 2007, while another A/L Commerce student came first in the island in 2011. In the 2013 GCE Ordinary Level exam, the College came first for handicapped children.

He brought about rapid progress in Sports where the College senior and junior teams shone in Cricket, Hockey, Rugger, Basketball, Swimming and Soccer.

Mr Gunasekera received his primary and secondary education at Jamburagoda Maha Vidyalaya and Siddharatha Maha Vidyalaya. He holds a BCom Special Degree and a Postgraduate Diploma. He was a Grade 1 Principal for 15 years.

St. Aloysius College is a multicultural and multiethnic school with nearly 4,000 students and 175 academic and non academic staff.
