Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister A.L.A.M. Athaullah wants to give duty free cars worth five million rupees to mayors, who, he says, are “rendering a broad service.”
He says the concession should be given to mayors who do not have “a suitable official vehicle.”

The minister says mayors are doing a wide range of work and the municipal councils are generating enough income to afford such vehicles.
