A team of six athletes left Sri Lanka for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last Thursday to represent the country at the 15th Asian Full Contact Karate Championship. The five-day championship which began yesterday will end on Wednesday at the Titiwangsa Gymnasium. The competition will feature 20 countries from the region including Australia, Iran and Mauritius.

Sri Lanka will be represented by S.A.D. Suriyapperuma, Raminda Perera, Ravindu Madusanka, Rasika Lakmal, Saranga Gayan and Dilsha de Zoysa. Sri Lanka’s oldest karate master Shihan Piyaratne Muthukumarana will attend the championship as the main referee while local officials Sensei Wasantha Zoysa, B.A. Liyanage, T.K. Geeganage and M.G. Amarasinghe, will attend the event as judges.

The championship is conducted in accordance to the Full Contact Karate rules introduced by the undefeated exponent of the game, the Late Sosai Master Oyama.
