Fifteen countries to take part in 10th Youth Volleyball championships

The coordination of schools associations with the National Bodies is very vital for the upliftment and improvement to any sport in Sri Lanka as well as in the other countries.

This will be very important for the schools bodies, as some are engaged in a tug-of-war with their respective national bodies, to work hand in hand with the national bodies it should be noted that today’s schoolchildren will be a citizens tomorrow and as they will be the ambassadors of our country in carrying the national flag to the international.

A very interesting story was revealed by the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation at the launching of the logo in connection with the 10th Youth Boys’ Volleyball Championship. This championship is to be held in Sri Lanka. This was revealed at the Press briefing at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on Thursday evening on how the Association faced problems with the Education Department authorities in getting the release of the boys for this particular tournament.

The President said that he was very unfortunate that the Minister of Sports was not in the island at that time, otherwise the President would request the assistance of the Minister to iron out the problem.The 10th Asian Boys’ Volleyball Championship 2014 which was awarded to Sri Lanka under the auspices of the Asian Continental Volleyball Federation will commence on the 5th September and continue till 14th September at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation had made the relevant arrangements to ensure the successful roll out of the tournament. A line up of fifteen countries including Sri Lanka will participate in the Championship.

The first three teams of this tournament will stand a chance of qualifying for the World Cup Youth Boys’ Volleyball Championship 2015 which will be organised by the International Volleyball Federation.

Countries who have confirmed their participation include Australia, Bahrain, China, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Qatar, China Taipei, Hong Kong, Turkmenistan with host Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Youth Boys’ team to represent at the tournament will be Shehan Lakshitha Bandara (Captain), Vinodh Maduranga Peiris (both from Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa), Rehan Madushan Fernando, Vishwa Sankana, Lahiru Dilshan, Mihirantha Udayakumara, Isuru Sanjula (all from Davisamara M.V. Seeduwa), Lakshana Subasinghe (Royal College, Colombo), Gihan Anjula (Vijayaba N.S, Hungama) L.B. Dulanjaya (Dammissara N.S. Hungama), Randiv Jayadeva (Madampe Central College) including Chamika Sandaruwan and Isuru Madushan both in China representing Sri Lanka at the Beach Volleyball Championship,
