Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Member of Parliament Sudarshini Fernandopulle yesterday were briefly admitted to hospitals in Bandarawela and Badulla respectively after they suddenly fell ill while on a membership drive of the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP).
Ms. Wanniarachchi was on her way to address a meeting in Badulla when she fell ill, and was admitted to the Bandarawela hospital, while Ms. Fernandopulle was admitted to the Badulla hospital after she finished addressing the meeting.

“The minister underwent a checkup and was discharged in the evening. She returned to her residence in Pelmadulla last night,” an aide to the minister said.

He said that the minister had addressed several meetings on the previous day as well, and was tired when she was heading to Badulla.
Mrs Fernandopulle had addressed a meeting in Badulla organized by the SLFP, in keeping with the concept ‘Rata Rakina Nil Pavura – Surakimu Mawbima’, and was admitted to hospital due to a backache.

“I addressed several meetings in Moneragala on the previous day, and the backache increased. I felt faint and my aides admitted me to the Badulla hospital,” she said.‘I underwent a checkup at the hospital and I am on my way to Colombo where I will undergo a further checkup,” Ms. Fernandopulle told the Sunday Times last night.
