Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) Chairman Suresh Shah, re-elected for a second year during the institution’s historic 175th AGM, on Thursday announced a chamber programme to help build “Peace and Harmony” in the country.

Addressing members at the chamber premises, Mr. Shah said the proposed programme will focus on gaining the support of the local corporate sector.

“I call upon the private sector to contribute at least a part of their CSR funds towards a programme that we will take island wide to bring peace and harmony to society,” he revealed during his address.

The CCC’s latest move comes following the recent incidents which took place in Aluthgama, where unrest prevailed in the region.
“This is extremely unfortunate and I don’t think we need to point fingers at any one, because at the end of the day, if there is unrest in our society, I think all of us need to take responsibility,” he further said.

A large number of representatives from the chamber’s member companies, associations, business councils and invitees were present at the AGM. The AGM also saw the re-election of Samantha Ranatunga as the Vice Chairman and Rajendra Theagerajah as the Deputy Vice Chairman.

Seen here is the CCC’s 175th Annual report Committee including its present chairman Suresh Shah and former chairmen Deva Rodrigo, Tilak de Soysa, Mahen Dayananda and Chari de Silva (by invitation). This committee included 10 past chairmen (also Ajit Jayaratne, Mano Selvanathan, Ken Balendra, Chandra Jayaratne, J.D. Bandaranayake, Susantha Ratnayake and Anura Ekanayake). However when the picture, sent by the chamber, was taken only these four former chairmen were present.
