With the demand for Sri Lankan workers in the cleaning industry rising in the Middle East, the local unit of a Kuwait-based cleaning service has launched a training centre for this category of workers.

Tanzifco opened its internationally certified training centre on June 17 at Dutugemunu Street, Dehiwala. The firm is ranked as the leading cleaning company in Kuwait and is headed by Mustapha Alayan and his son, Ahmed Alayan (Group General Manager).Deputy General Manager for the Sri Lanka office, Duleepa Samaraweera told the Business Times that Tanzifco decided to open a training centre in Sri Lanka because it was not only cost effective but there is a huge demand for cleaners in the market.

The company annually sends 260 to 300 workers from Sri Lanka for jobs in the cleaning sector but hopes to increase this number with the setting up of a training centre here.

He said the firm, which has training centres in India and Nepal as well, is offering its services to a larger circle of clients in Sri Lanka and any recruiting company could send their staff to be trained at Tanzifco.

Mr. Mustapha Alayan stated that with the training provided at Tanzifco, all job seekers would have greater opportunities, salaries and training.

Tanzifco, established in 1963, is one of the few private businesses that provides interested parties with a complete grounding in cleaning services and is affiliated with the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc).

Mr. Samaraweera said that since most staff from the rural community had difficulty in identifying and using the diverse equipment in overseas positions, Tanzifco aimed to bridge the gap of knowledge through this centre. Orientation and training will be offered to the workers in batches of 15, with training taking four days to complete. Exceptional staff will have the opportunity to complete a special assessment conducted by the BICSc and successful candidates will be issued with a certificate of recognition.

Once the training is complete the employees will then be recruited to Tanzifco’s many branches located in Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Qatar and Egypt. Present for the opening ceremony was the company chairman, Mr. Ahmed Alayan, General Manager for the Emirates Ali Deryan, and BICSc General Manager Colin Hanks.
