World-renowned academics and researchers from Australia’s leading private university will visit Sri Lanka this month as part of a Bond University education expo.

The Bond team includes Professor Raoul Mortley AO who serves as the University’s Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr Rick Best from the Institute of Architecture and Sustainable Development; Professor Lawrence Boulle AM from the Faculty of Law; economics and statistics expert, Dr Kuldeep Kumar from the Faculty of Business; and sports management specialist, Dr Danny O’Brien from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine.

The academics will offer one-on-one advisory sessions at the Hotel Cinnamon Grand in Colombo from 1pm to 4pm on August 15 for students and their parents who may be considering attending university abroad.

With Sri Lankan universities offering only 10,000 places for the estimated 160,000 students who complete Year 12 each year, many Sri Lankan families are now looking further afield for tertiary study opportunities.

Modelled on the traditions of North America’s prestigious Ivy League colleges, Bond University on Queensland’s Gold Coast has emerged as a popular choice.

As one of Australia’s ‘younger’ universities – established in 1989 – the Bond campus gives students access to the most advanced resources and facilities of any educational institution in the country, including a multi-million dollar Legal Skills Centre, the globally-awarded Institute of Sustainable Development building, a state-of-the-art Medical School and the soon-to-be-opened Abedian School of Architecture building.

It has also developed a niche educational experience where students are mentored in small, personalised classes by a team of world recognised academics who provide unparalleled access to high profile industry leaders and work experience opportunities with Fortune 500 companies.

Most importantly, Sri Lankan students – many of whom are living away from home for the first time – are made to feel welcome and comfortable as part of an international cohort of students hailing from 80 countries worldwide.

In Australian and global academic circles, Bond is particularly recognised for its MBA and Law degrees, as well as its architecture, urban planning, communication and creative media programmes. An on-campus English Language Institute also provides recognized ELICOS diplomas and pathway programmes.

The University representatives attending the information day on August 15 will be able to provide details on the extensive range of degrees offered at Bond University, the support services offered to international students, on and off-campus accommodation options and an insight into the Australian lifestyle.
