Last year’s fantastic Pettah Interchange brought Bordermovement and the Goethe Institut together in an epic celebration of music and art. Dancers colonised a basement which had been transformed into a great party space. This time around it’s the turn of the old town hall market, the historic place from which Colombo started to expand. Among the performers will be

Skinnerbox (Berlin/Tel Aviv/ Bpitch Control). Comprising the electronic duo Olaf Hilgenfeld (Germany) and IftahGabbai (Israel), Skinnerbox have toured Europe’s finest clubs and claim their own unique style – improvised live electronic dance – taking the audience on expedition full of soul, breaking house, hard-edged techno-jazz and ambient electronica futurism.

The Mumbai based artist Sandunes (SanayaArdeshir) blends live music backgrounds with quality dark-studio-production hours and a heavy dose of UK underground electronica. GauravMalaker, the musical department of BLOT! also returns to Pettah Interchange along with Asvajit, Musicmatters Collective, Sunara, Geve andKinesthetics 0800 andguest performers Mass Madness (Germany). The décor is designed by the art collective CoCAand Bang Bang.
In the run up to event BLOT!’sAvinash will facilitate VJ Interchange – a unique multidisciplinary workshop facilitated by of the Indian audiovisual collective BLOT! and young Sri Lankan talent to explore the exciting medium of Visual Jockeying. The group will explore some traditional and new tools for VJing, examine the interaction of the city with new cultures, create and remix visual content and set up an audiovisual installation for Pettah Interchange.

Following the German subcultural practice of using unconventional public and locations to celebrate music and the arts, Bordermovement along with BLOT!, CoCA and Bang Bang will turn the usually grubby incense market into an audio-visual club experience of international standards with a number of local twists.Pettah Interchange is on August 10 at old town hall market from 8pm onwards. Tickets are priced at Rs. 1500 and available at the Goethe-Institut, Barefoot Gallery and La voile Blanche.
