Students who finished O/levels in 2013 will sit for their A/Levels in 2015 June, by the time they get their results it will be August 2015. However Australian universities only commence in February 2016. From the time they sit for the O/level exam, it takes 2 ½ – 3 years to get into university. With the University Foundation Year (UFY) programme in Sri Lanka students can get in to pre-university studies with just their O/Level results. If they have a credit average in O/Levels which includes credits for Maths and English students can start prestigious Australian University programmes right here in Sri Lanka. Students will study only 1 year of foundation study compared to 2 years of A/Level study. This allows them to start university 1 ½ years ahead of their peers. University Foundation programmes have been developed by elite universities especially to assist international students with their transition to university.

The University Foundation programme has been delivered globally for over 20 years and is well respected by academics who understand the importance of thorough preparation of students for tertiary study. For many parents this is a new concept and often they are not aware that these internationally recognized programmes have such high standing in the top universities in the world. They are not intended to encourage students to drop out of formal secondary schooling early, but to focus students towards the degree and career of their choice.

UFY is one year programme designed by the Monash University Australia that prepares students for their desired Australian university destination degree in a variety of areas including Engineering, Business, Information Technology, Medicine, Biosciences, Law, Psychology, Communications and much more.

Students can select from a variety of subjects specifically tailored to lead them to the degree of their choice. Assessment is based on internal performance and examinations set by qualified academics from the University of Australia and emphasis is placed on steady performance throughout the programme. This enables students to acquire the initiative and skills necessary to succeed in a university environment.

Upon successful completion of the UFY programme, students are provided direct entry into ALL Australian universities including into the prestigious Group of Eight (Go8) known as top universities in Australia. The Go8 universities are University of Adelaide, Australian National University, University of Melbourne, Monash University, University of New South Wales, University of Queensland, University of Sydney, and University of Western Australia.

The UFY programme can also be used as an entry qualification when applying to many other top universities in the UK & New Zealand hence providing Sri Lankan students with unlimited opportunities to pursue the university degree of their dreams world wide.

UFY is recognized by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) as an Australian year 12 qualification for student visa purposes. Therefore a student after O/Levels can do the UFY programme for 1 year and apply to any top Australian university, saving 2 years of Advanced Level studies and completing their undergraduate degree sooner than their Advanced Level peers.

In joining the UFY program with O’Levels students are ahead of the others.
