The Newly Constructed Building

The school was inaugurated on November 29, 1902 in Appaladuwa as two separate sections with 30 students. The girls’ section was under the Principal Madam N. Gunasekara. The boys section was at the present hospital premises under Principal Mr.Cooray.  Later the school was moved to a spacious area where it is presently situated.

The college which started functioning with only thirty students at the inception, today caters to the educational needs of more than 800 students who belong to different strata of society. Today it is one of the leading schools in the Matugama zone. Colvin R De Silva MV has been developed under the Isuru project for several years. Today it is under the development of the 1000 Super School Project ; a process of reaping the benefits of the ongoing projects. In the near future the school will be equipped with all the required facilities in order to develop the school to the highest standard attainable.

Today Colvin R De Silva MV is running as a 1AB school, classes are conducted from six to thirteen and the school offers four streams of studies; Science, Commerce, Arts and a new Stream Technological studies. It is boosted with 43 tutorial staff members and 3 non-academic staff members. They dedicate themselves to bring successful results to the school.

The Computer Unit is very successful with twenty computers which have been donated by the Second Educational Modern Programme. This school is well equipped with a Library, Science Laboratory, Computer Learning Center, Mathematics unit, and an Aesthetic Unit, etc.

The present Principal is Mr. G. D. Premarathna who was appointed in 2005. He is very experienced and has been guiding the school in its road to success. The students of Colvin MV have done exceptionally

well in the educational field. They enjoy a considerable percentage of university entrants annually. The school has turned out several valuable past pupils to the society such as politicians, educationists, directors, principals, teachers, lawyers over the years. The school is backed by several past pupils who are keen to see that the school is well developed.

Colvin R De Silva MV has also been able to witness outstanding performance in the field of athletics, sports, dancing, music, arts, Information Technology and cadetting. Students have also brought credit to the school by winning many medals at Provincial and Zonal level contests in the aesthetic and language competition. The students have done well in sports as well.
