Two more students were successfully placed in US universities for fall 2013 by Scholarships for USA (Pvt) Ltd (www.scholarshipsforusa.com) recently. Chamani Madushika (Gateway – Rajagiriya – 2nd L) was offered admissions to College of St.Benedicts (www.csbsju.edu) in central Minnesota whilst Ieshangie Gamage (Asian International – 3rd L) was accepted to University of North Dakota (www.und.edu) both with excellent financial aid. Both institutes were introduced to Sri Lanka by SUSA in its decade old mission to make US education increasingly affordable and accessible to Lankan students. SUSA is the only Lankan institute passionately engaged in discovering schools across US each summer that agree to offer amazing financial aid packages and instant admissions to brilliant Lankan scholars that has so far resulted in placing over 200 applicants across the Island from Jaffna to Galle and from Ampara to Puttalam. Chamani, planning to major in Biology, was offered admissions (with varying scholarships) by no less than six universities from Hawai’i to Montana and Ieshangie – majoring in Communications – was only interested in one university – UND – where her brother Isuru is currently a sophomore in Aviation. CSBSJU is considered the second largest Catholic university in US and is among the top 100 private liberal arts schools in the nation whilst UND is considered to have one of the best aviation schools in the world, amongst only 600 schools nationwide to have its own medical and law schools. Considered to be one of the finest public universities in the US midwest it also offers 100% tuition waivers based on freshman year academic results which most Lankan students currently enjoy.

Both Ishangie and Chamani were introduced to Madushika Lansakara (4th L) an alumna of Augustana College IL (B.A. in Psychology & French) and Brandeis University MA (M.A. in Sustainable International Development) – a humanitarian professional with more than seven years work experience with UN and Red Cross agencies both here and overseas and currently the acting Country Representative for an INGO. Madushika also has the rare honor of welcoming Illinois Senator Barack Obama to Augustana College in 2005 when she headed its Student Government.

Madushika discussed a range of topics including importance of layering up during winter, making friends, joining clubs and societies, remaining active, taking up campus employment, involving in classroom discussions and getting to know your professors well. She emphasised the availability of countless opportunities and urged the two youngsters plunge in.

Asked about the services provided by SUSA Chamani quipped; “trustworthy, caring, professional at all times, never slow to respond, assisted me on each step at a fee very fair for the services provided”. And Ieshangie added; “they made my dream come true through hard work and dedication, in the same way my older brother was helped few years back.
