The Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM), in collaboration with the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) offers a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resource Management. Both the IPM and the OUSL are well established institutions in Sri Lanka with a proven track record of providing industry focused professional and academic training.

The Masters programme is yet another endeavor by the two institutions to broaden the spectrum of study for students interested in pursuing careers in HRM.

The programme being a combined effort of these two prodigious institutions provides a well rounded training for future human resource managers.

With the increasing importance and recognition given to human resources as a significant aspect of any organisation, and the subsequent rapid expansion in the HRM industry, the demand for excellence in HRM as a profession has also increased. And IPM being the pioneering, and the leading, local educational institute involved in establishing the HRM profession in Sri Lanka, has gone the extra mile in ensuring a well rounded, academic and professional training for the people managers of the country.

The MBA in Human Resource Management is a two year degree programme spread over four semesters. The first two semesters involve ten compulsory course units and the second two semesters involve three elective courses and a research based dissertation. Academic support for the dissertation is provided through the course where students are provided with a comprehensive understanding of research methodology. Overall, students have to gain four credits to be eligible for the award of the MBA degree.
This exclusive master’s degree programme provides students with exposure to a combination of professional and theoretical aspects of human resources management which results in the graduates being well nurtured to take on the people related challenges of the expanding business world. The programme modules are designed in a manner to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the conceptual and practical spheres of result-oriented proper management of people.

IPM students with the Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management (PQHRM) are eligible to join this master’s programme. The PQHRM is one of IPM’s most sought after courses as it provides a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge and skill necessary in the industry.

The PQHRM affords a professional qualification in HRM which is equivalent to the professional qualifications in HRM offered by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, UK.

The PQHRM course comprises three stages spanning over two years. Students with three GCE A/L passes along with 3 years executive level experience, a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or who have completed IPM’s Certificate Course are eligible to enroll for the PQHRM course.
