The following questions remain for parents, at the end of 13 years of primary & secondary education completed by your children.

WHAT NEXT?
WHAT FIELD OF HIGHER STUDIES IS MOST APPROPRIATE?
WHAT UNIVERSITY PROGRAMME IS THE BEST?
HOW EXPENSIVE IS IT/IS IT AFFORDABLE?
WHICH LOCAL INSTITUTION SHOULD MY CHILD STUDY?

As things stand, a large number of students who sat the local Advanced level exams await their destiny, having received their results a few months back. They wait patiently to seek admission to the local university system, and the University of their choice. At the other end of the spectrum, a large section of our younger generation, who would be sitting their London A/L examinations in May/June, would also be looking at higher education options that would be available at the end of their secondary school education. More specifically, it is the parent who would be visiting every institution possible in seeking the best possible option for our children.

The degree and University options available:

The options available in higher education, and more specifically degrees offered by International Universities, in the present education market are many. The range of degrees are many in the fields of business, education, legal , psychology, management, engineering , IT and medicine, from universities in the United Kingdom, USA, Australia, Malaysia etc…Naturally, the selection of a viable option would depend on the career path that the child/parent would select for the future. The worldwide recognition of the particular Universities and the cost of completing the respective degrees in Sri Lanka wary, from institution to institution. The reasons for this variation in costs would be many, inclusive of administrative costs, royalties, examination costs, costs of study materials etc. Hence the question that every parent should consider within this context is whether their child would ultimately receive a degree and the experienceof a university student, which would reflectVALUE FOR MONEY!

Universities around the world are evaluated in their respective countries on a strict criteria based on research strengths, student results, quality of academia, employable students, academic facilities etc.. Driven by such a strict criteria, the University of London international Programmes, represent a choice of high quality for the most discerning students. Amongst the UK based qualifications currently available in Sri Lanka, one could safely say that the UoL qualifications are the Number 1 ranked programmes presently delivered in the country. The evidence to this effect is readily available, if one does evaluate the present University rankings provided by the higher education evaluation bodies in the UK. Given the very competitive nature of the employment market and the desire on the part of employers to “go for the best”; one could choose no better academic option than a degree from the University of London and through the International programmes. While the academic qualification is second to none in terms of worldwide recognition, the UoL programmes also certainly provides value for money when one considers the considerable variation in costs, in comparison to the expenses that would be incurred to complete the same degree in the United Kingdom. One could safely say that a Degree within the axis of the UoL International programme is made affordable to many, and not to a selected segment of society. Certainly, it is a viable option for all students who have completed their Advanced Level Examinations or are in the final stages of completing their London A/L examinations.

Where should your child study?

This brings us to the most important question on Which Institution should be selected to complete a UoL degree programme? While the quality of the degrees on offer through the University of London international Programmes, are not in doubt, one has also to consider the holistic environment within which you would want your child to read for the chosen degree programme. It is here that HORIZON CAMPUS steps in to provide the required environment, facilities, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that would make the student life of your child truly wholesome, and not limited to a “ mere tuition centre”.

It was 4 years ago thatMr.Upul Daranagama, CEO of Horizon Campus and Horizon College International envisaged a center of learning, where students received pre-school, secondary and higher education. Thus Horizon College international and Horizon Campus were established in the beautiful, stress free environment and landscape of Malabe. Horizon Campus was inaugurated two years back and has thus far delivered diploma/degree programmes in the fields of Psychology and Education. The University of London International Programmes, for which classes are delivered at our recently opened “HORIZON CITY CAMPUS”, has also been added to this portfolio.
We at Horizon have taken the responsibility to prepare students for seven degrees offered by the world renowned University of London, within the axis of the International Programmes. Amongst the many degrees offered by the University of London, we have taken the task of providing lectures and support services for Law, Economics, Banking & Finance, Politics & International Relations, Accounting & Finance, Economics & Management and Accounting & Law. Not only are we offering the LL.B. and 7 BSc degrees, but also recruited a vibrant and enthusiastic panel of lecturers, under whose guidance the degree could be completed within a period of three years. The lecturer panel in particular, comprise academics and professionals who have the knowledge and practical experience, in their respective fields, and who are prepared to mentor students through the period of study.

The degree programme of the University of London is conducted completely under the guidance of the University, where the subject guides, course syllabuses and examinations are prepared and assessed by staff of the University itself. While studying for the UoL degree is a challenging task, we at Horizon have planned to have the classes during the weekend, providing ample opportunity for the students to self-study. The added advantage of the programme schedule at Horizon lies in the fact that students are also able to continue with a degree, while being employed at the same time, which sits well with the “inclusive” policy of the University, where students in any walk of life being encouraged to study for a UoL degree, at any stage in their professional life.
