The basic equipment of the designers is the ideas, emotions and experience of life. It is important to remember that all the designers use their basic art skills developed and professional knowledge gained through training to pursue careers.
Being the premiere institute for fashion education in Sri Lanka, Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) has trained many designers and has reached its 13th successful year. LIFT as an Institute is committed to the cause of churning fashion professionals to meet the demand of reputed fashion houses, Export houses, boutiques and the budding designers who come out with their own labels. The Institute has its own unique way to meet the interest in the fashion community. A highly equipped infrastructure and the fashion studios of LIFT is an exclusive investment programme over the last 13 years which has ensured that our facilities are of the highest international standards.
LIFT gives the opportunity for 150 full-time students and 100 part-time students per year. The links with the professionals and the Universities in the UK, USA, Singapore, India and Australia have given our students the opportunity of learning from internationally renowned lecturers from top ranked universities and world renowned fashion designers.
The courses at LIFT covers the areas of Fashion Design with a wide range of skills relevant to the central areas of Pattern Cutting, Draping, Garment Manufacturing, Fashion Illustration & Visual studies, Presentation skills, Costume History, Design development, Textiles, Fashion styling and makeup, fashion business studies, Computer aided Design and Portfolio development. LIFT offers special training on apparel industry related software such as MODARIS, KALEDO and DIAMINO with the support of LECTRA. Students have the opportunity of realizing their designs how they would apply in mass production in the garment industry by using the latest technology.
Students completing courses at LIFT get the support and guidance on their career paths and business development through special individual counseling sessions. And the ones who prefer further studies abroad (undergraduate or postgraduate) gets the free service of receiving university placements, accommodation abroad and support on visa documentation through its subsidiary LIFT Overseas Study Placement Center.
Work and Study
LIFT offers courses for the working individuals who have a busy schedule but still have the urge to study. Classes are offered on Saturday mornings.
Student life at LIFT
LIFT students are encouraged to work on external projects apart from their normal schedules, which would bring more experience and exposure to the student. LIFT graduateds students are been employed by some of the leading garment manufacturers and buying offices and some graduates have started their own labels in Sri lanka and abroad.
