Encouraged by the success of the Edexcel BTEC Professional Diploma in Teaching offered by the Gateway Graduate Schools in Colombo, Kandy and Negombo, Edexcel International has pledged to support teacher training in Sri Lanka. Gateway introduced this innovative and modern teacher training course to offer an international qualification to all teachers and to improve the standards of teaching in international and private schools throughout Sri Lanka. In this short period of time Gateway has had six intakes in Colombo, three intakes in Kandy and one intake in Negombo. Building on the success so far, Edexcel is keen to promote their qualifications to all teachers including the teachers of the State Schools.

Mr. Manos Kapterian, Managing Director of Edexcel and Dr. Harsha Alles, Deputy Chairman of Gateway at a recent meeting at the Edexcel office in UK.

In September last year, the first intake that completed their course of study received the Edexcel Professional Diplomas in Teaching. The second intake of Colombo and the first intake of Kandy received their Diplomas at the recently concluded convocation of the Gateway Graduate School. Mrs. Premila Paulraj, Assistant Vice President, Indian Subcontinent and Mr. Suriya Bibile, Territory Manager, Sri Lanka, Maldives & Pakistan of Edexcel Pearson were present to distribute certificates to the teachers who successfully completed the Diplomas.

The good news for those who have already completed the Diploma, that is equivalent to the first year of a Degree, is that, arrangements are currently being made to commence the second year, providing the necessary articulation pathway to complete a BA in Education.
Mr. Manos Kapterian, Managing Director of Edexcel mentions that Edexcel is pleased to offer this qualification through Gateway due to the confidence they have in Gateway’s passion and the commitment to quality education. He says that by offering this internationally recognized qualification in Sri Lanka, it is not only the teachers of the Gateway Schools that will benefit but also it will contribute towards the professional development of all teachers in Sri Lanka.

The next intake of Colombo, Kandy and Negombo will be in June 2013. Further details can be obtained by calling Rushika (Colombo) – 0772256356, 2583848, 2593213, Thusitha (Kandy) – 0777922777, 0812203377 or Nilanthi (Negombo) – 0716492935 or by writing to ggs@gatewayworldwide.com
