school under the ministerial line administration.

Kekirawa CC is situated near the Kandy- Anuradhapura road, one kilometer away from Kekirawa town. The inauguration of Kekirawa Central College was a landmark event in the evolution of education for the several underprivileged children living in the nearby community. This was established as an alternative Buddhist mixed school for the Baptist mission schools in Kekirawa.

The Minister of Education at the time, Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara, declared open the school on October 12 1945, writing a log entry in Sinhala whereas all the other entries were written in English because the medium of instruction at the school was English during that time. During its early days the school housed only 31 students and just two teachers. P. B. Banneheka was the first principal of the

school. The present principal is S .M. W. Samarakoon. During the tenure of Principal K. M. H, Bandara the school was converted to a national school.

Presently it has a student population of 2684. A teaching staff of 132 and 31 non-academic staff work tirelessly to produce outstanding citizens. The school is especially proud of the disciplined students it generates, who go on to excel in every sphere of life.
