GSM Business Research takes an Asian Perspective

Adding an Asian perspective to business research in Sri Lanka will be an important subject that a workshop on Doctoral Research in Business will address on May 16th at the Graduate School of Management (GSM). In view of the efforts to re-position Sri Lanka’s economy in the growing Asian markets, research in to business developments in the continent will make inputs vital to investors, financiers, and trading partners. In an interview Prof. Gunapala Nanayakkara, Academic Advisor of GSM emphasized that the study of future markets on the one hand and understanding of managerial practices of companies in competitive markets on the other would be vital to improving Sri Lanka’s trade and business in Asia.

Among the advisors to the project of Asia Business Research Council are Hon. Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Energy and His Excellency Azmi Zainuddin, High Commissioner for Malaysia, Vice-Chancellor of Open University Malaysia, Professor Sri Anuwar Ali, Prof. E. S. Lee, Professor of International Trade and President, International Trade and Law Institute, Seoul, and Prof. Ashok Joshi, President of Association of Management Development Institutes in South Asia (AMDISA), Pune.

The Workshop on Doctoral Research in Business will be from 2.30pm to 7.30pm at the GSM,
124, Park Road, Colombo 05 (email: operations@gsmedu.com). Among the topics to be covered are learning from doctoral research work in progress, formulation of research problems and their methodological issues, and application of analytical techniques in both quantitative and qualitative research in Sri Lanka as well as across borders. In the resource panel there will be Prof. G. Nanayakkara, Dr. Ranjith Cabral, Prof. K. Siddhisena, Dr. Mahim Mendis, and Dr. Subash Chawla, marketing expert. The leading text book on research communication in business in Sri Lanka, Handbook on Academic and Professional Writing in Management (368 pages) by Prof. G. Nanayakkara will be available for the participants.
