As part of the ‘Year of Faith’ celebrations, St. Cecila’s Choir of S. Joseph’s College teamed up with the renowned Assens Boys Choir of Denmark , to perform at ‘Anno Fidei’- a school concert to celebrate this season in harmony and brotherhood.

His Eminence, Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal  Ranjith,  together with  the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr.Joseph  Spiteri, graced the occasion, held at the S. Joseph’s College Chapel. The SJC choir was led by Mr Rasika Fonseka.    The live wire behind the programme   was Choral Director Francis  D’ Almeida, who has contributed immensely for the promotion of Christian sacred music  in Sri Lanka.

The Assens Boys’ Choir performs at Our  Lady’s Church in Assens, Denmark. The choir has performed in different parts of the world with about 20 concerts annually. The Choir is directed by Organist/ Choirmaster Finn Pederson .  The evening saw performances such as Lacrimosa – Mozart , The King Is Coming – William J Gaipher and Va Pensiero – G.Verdi. And a memorable performance of Ingemisco sung by tenor – Emesh Wijewardena.

The evening also saw a guest performance by the Choir of Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena. The programme concluded  with the combined choirs performing the famous  Halleluia   Chorus by Handel, which  touched  the hearts of all those  present.
