Dutch Burgher Union Easter sale 

The Dutch Burgher Union Easter sale will be held at the Dutch Burgher Union Hall at No.114, Reid Avenue, Colombo 4 on Sunday, April 7 from 9.30 a.m. onwards.

A variety of things will be on sale such as – gift items, garments, sarees, shoes, handbags, costume jewellery, a special DBU stall with all the home made Burgher delicacies including Lamprais, Yellow Rice, Breudhers, foguetti, asparagus sandwiches, ginger beer, milk wine, iced coffee and a whole lot more.

Peterite Easter Cantata

An evening of Easter music, ‘Halleluiah – He is the Rock of our Salvation’, presented by the Choir of St. Peter’s College, Colombo 4, will be held at the college chapel today (Sunday, March 31) at 6.30 p.m.  The Primary Choir and the Peterite Chorale will join the College Choir in this traditional Easter Cantata.

‘Dholahak’ on April 6

Dholahak’ by Athula Pathirana, a stage drama based on the novel “Twelve Angry Men”, will go on the boards on April 6 at 6.30 p.m. at the British International School Auditorium, Borella.

The cast includes Wishwajith Gunasekara, W. Jayasiri,Lakshman Mendis, Dharmapriya Dias, Chaminda Sampath Jayaweera, Thumidu Dodanthanna, Jagath Manuwarna, Pujitha de Mel, Sanjaya Hettiarachchi, Gihan de Chickera, Saman Pushpa Liyange, Gamini Wijesinghe and Dayadewa Edirisinghe. The play is organised by the Old Boys’ Association of Mahanama College 2002 batch.
Tickets are available at Sarasavi bookshop, Nugegoda, Salaka Senkada Town hall and at the theatre.

Appeal for liver transplant

A.M.L.K. Aththanayake, 43 of KPA 15B1, 1st Mawatha Navagampura, Ampara is suffering from critical liver disease. Dr. Nalaka Gunawansa, Consulant Vascular Surgeon at the National Hospital, Colombo, says that Mr. Aththanayake is in the end stage of liver diseases and will require long term medical treatment and liver transplant soon to save his life.

Food Fiesta for needy cancer survivors

The Relief and Rehabilitation Committee of the Cancer Society is organising a Food Fiesta in aid of the many needy Cancer survivors. The Food Fiesta will be held on Sunday April 7, at the premises of St. Theresa’s Church, Thimbirigasyaya, from 7.30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This sale is being held especially to help these cancer survivors in purchasing drugs not available at the Cancer Hospital, providing nourishment and dry rations they require and also to assist in essential repairs to their homes.

A wide variety of food items such as cakes, sweets, savouries, lamprais, snacks and chutneys will be on offer. You can buy a breakfast pack which will be ready packed or take home a lamprais for lunch. Also available for sale is a special cookery book with recipes contributed by members of the Cancer Society. Published by Friends of the Relief and Rehabilitation Committee, the book is available at Rs. 300 per copy.

Sri Lanka Sumithrayo Colombo will hold their annual fundraising sale on Saturday, April 6 at 60/7, Horton Place, Colombo 7. New book honours heroic soldiers

The book titled “Prabhakarange Ealam Sihinaya Sunu Visunu Kala Ranaviruwo” by J. F. Ranjith Perera was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a ceremony held recently at Temple Trees.

This is the second book by the writer and it was written in Sinhala to appreciate the services rendered by the heroic soldiers or the “Ranaviruwos” to crush the ruthless LTTE. His first book is titled “Wining an unwinnable war, a tribute to the war heroes”.

The author is of the view that the whole nation should be grateful to them for their outstanding contributions which had qualified them to be “Sri Lanka’s national heroes of the 21st century.”

Mithuruwela fundraiser for cancer support network 

Mithuruwela, the Cancer Support Network, will be conducting its annual fund-raiser, a sale of new and nearly new clothes and household items on Saturday, April 6 at the Parish Hall, St Paul’s Church, Milagiriya, Bambalapitiya from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 pm. Items include garments such as sarees, salwars, dresses, menswear, children’s wear, jewellery, footwear, handbags, DVD’s, toys, books, ornaments, gift items and many more at give away prices!
