Term of office of Resettlement Authority extended

The term of office of the Resettlement Authority of Sri Lanka, which was to lapse later this month, will be extended for another three years, according to an amendment to be introduced to the Rehabilitation Authority Act.

The provisions of the Act which was enacted in March 2007 for a term of six years is due to lapse later this month. However last Friday government introduced an amendment in Parliament under which the term of the Authority would be extended for three more years.

The Authority is entrusted with the task of resettling or relocating internally displaced persons (IDPs) in a dignified manner as well as formulating and implementing a resettlement policy in consultation with the Ministry of Resettlement.
