The Sri Lanka Anti-Narcotics Association (SLANA) has just released its annual calendar for 2013. SLANA has chosen as its theme for the year ‘Celebrating Sri Lanka’s Wildlife’ and the desktop calendar contains some beautiful images that convey the message of conservation and protection whilst reminding us how blessed this little island has been with its rich biodiversity.

Italian artist Maurizio Boscheri has contributed some of his striking paintings and the paintings for January of the endangered Ceylon Blue Magpie and the more common Asian paradise flycatcher are truly a pleasure to behold.

Wildlife enthusiast Hiran de Silva and photographer Rajiv Welikala have also contributed images of other animals and birds. These are so attractive they make you want to leave your desk and head to the wilds straightaway!

SLANA is a private non-profit organisation whose mission is to fight against drug abuse and help the development of human resources in the country. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go to SLANA’s many projects.

The desktop calendar follows others on themes such as ‘World Heritage and Other Sites in Sri lanka’, ‘Dances of Sri Lanka’ and ‘Stamps of Sri Lanka’ that were released in previous years. They are available at the SLANA office, No. 5, Kirimandala Mawatha, Colombo 5 and at leading bookshops and make an ideal gift for the season.
