The Government Analyst has found that there were traces of cyanide in the uncooked stalks of kohila that led to a food poisoning scare in Parliament two weeks ago.

Both samples of cooked kohila curry and the raw ones were sent to the Government Analyst’s Department after food inspectors found that the cooked curry of the vegetable in the Parliament kitchen on November 9 was unusually red in colour.

The Sunday Times learns that the report sent to the Parliament by the Government Analyst states that there was a trace of cyanide in the raw kohlia stalks that had been bought for the Parliament kitchen.
Parliament police have recorded the statements of several people and the investigation is still continuing.
It is believed that the excessive use of fertilizer or pesticide may have led to the cyanide content in the vegetable.
