Sri Ramco Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ramco Group, India, celebrated several events in Colombo on Wednesday including the introduction of new brand logo, receiving Sri Lanka Standards – ISO 9001 and inducting entertainer Sunil Perera as its brand ambassador.

Ramco Group, established in 1965 in Tamil Nadu, has diverse businesses such as textile, cement, software and IT solutions and commenced operations in Sri Lanka in 1999 establishing a Fibre Cement Sheets (Asbestos Cement) in Makandura and recently another in Matugama in the Kalutara district.

Ramco Sri Lanka Director Prem Shanker said that the entire production is operated with computer controlled systems and compliant with on-line quality control systems monitoring the production line at every stage. They use only quality approved materials which ensured quality consistency from raw material to the finished product. The managers and engineering staff are provided with real time data to take informed decisions related to marketing, production and engineering, he said.

They have, Mr Shanker asserted, 8,000 stockiests in the marketing network that has ensured market leadership with an annual turnover of Rs 4,200 million on fibre cement products alone.

The employees are provided with continuous training and the employees and their families are provided with accommodation in their plant premises itself or closer to them. Mr Shanker said that they also make enormous contribution to the social welfare of the communities around them and they maintain educational and charitable institutions, he said.

The capacity at Matugama is substantially higher, he said and would stand at125,000 tons. It is almost equal to the capacity of both the lines at Makandura.

Sunil Perera, famed leader of the Gypsies band, signed on as the Brand Ambassador of Ramco products and, along with a person attired as a worker sang the chorus of “Api dennaa ek weela ……..” dubbed to include ‘Ramco’.
