Royal College defeated their arch rivals, S. Thomas’ College by 70 points to 65 in extra time when they met each other for the Janaka De Fonseka Memorial Challenge Trophy in their annual basketball fixture at the Royal College court recently. However, it was the Thomians in the lead with 25 points to 16 and at the long whistle the scores were tied at 60 each.

In the extra five minutes to decide the winner, the home team added a further 10 points while the visitors increased theirs by only five.
For the Old Royalists, Thavindu Rupasinghe 20, Chamath Danawansa 16 and Chaminda Dushantha 10 were the best shooters. For the Old Thomians, tall, lanky Andrew Alphonsus was in excellent form bagging 16 points, while Hiran Wijesuriya 10 and Dilon Silva six were in form. -BM
