Finding its niche in the midst of a sea of reality shows that have taken to Sri Lankan television, ‘Music Runway Idol’ aspires to be the premier show catering to western musicians. Being tagged as a mini-reality talent competition, it was derived from the popular musical program ‘Music Runway’ aired on the CSN Network.

“The basic concept was to do a reality show with a custom touch to it. Not just singing, but we highlight and encourage anything musical; dancers, beat-boxers, instrument players,” says Bhanu Wickremasinghe, presenter of the show. “We knew there was a hunger for this kind of a programme,” he adds. The show would be a stepping stone for young artists to grow in this field and create a sphere of involvement amongst the English song crazed youth.

“We mainly target the English audience between the ages 12 – 25 as that’s the age category which has a future in this field”, Bhanu mentions. A wider range is aspired where younger artists aim to seek the limelight in their respective entertainment fields. The winner will get the opportunity to work with renowned artists and have their music videos produced.

The primary auditions took place at The Grid in Battaramulla and the 8 contestants who got through to the producer’s round will be facing the celebrity panel of judges. The contestants will be visited by the presenters and viewers gain an insight into their every day routines on the episodes, adding a personal touch to the show.

Round 2 will be held at the Punchi Theater and 4 contestants will be selected to enter the semi-final stages. These four contestants will be given a fully-fledged training and prepped up for the grand finale.

“The judges are going to be brutally honest with what they think of them,” says Bhanu, “We want to keep that spice within the show.” The presenters of the show will be Bhanu Wickremasinghe, Prabath Jayasooriya and Ornella Gunasekere.

The judges will be Eliana Usma(Entertrainers), Dilan Irugalbandara (Voice Print Beatboxer) and famous rap artist Krishan Maheson. The finals will be held on December 21 zat the British Auditorium. ‘Music Runway Idol’ will be aired on the CSN Network every Friday from 9pm to 10 pm starting November 16.
