St. Joseph’s College once again proved themselves to be a formidable rowing unit with a string of strong performances, at the Mora Regatta, conducted on the waters of the Beira Lake a few weeks ago.

At this event, known as the Bolgoda Regatta, held for eight consecutive years, a crew of 15, led by the energetic Aaron John, proved that they are a side to be reckoned with.

While John established his dominance by winning the Under-19 single sculls he also scored a resounding success by winning the Under-13 championship. Angelo Fredricks was placed first at the single sculls. Angelo, with Mario Fredricks, was placed first at double sculls while Gavishka Athanayake and Shanuk Michael secured second place.

Adding to this momentum were the performances of Himendra Rodrigo, who came third in the Under-16 single sculls. Rodrigo and Sachin Arulanandam were placed third in the double sculls. Aaron John’s team took everyone by surprise by winning at least one medal each in all age groups at this regatta, indicating their re-emergence in the school rowing arena.
