SL2College launched the first step of its seminar series, “Career and Higher Study Options after Advanced Levels”, targeting the students who faced Advanced Level examinations recently. The seminar was held on the 21st of October at Royal College Union Skill Center.

It is a known fact that students of today do not take advantage of the wide range of opportunities available to pursue higher education within the country. It is with the intention of overcoming these obstacles that the volunteer-driven organization, SL2College, has come up with a new initiative, the Sri Lanka Education Forum (SLEF).

The seminar was focused on the higher education opportunities available on Engineering, Business and Marketing, and Information Technology. Professor Rahula Attalage, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Moratuwa, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarna, the Founder, Chairman and CEO of WSO2 Inc., Mrs. Vishaka Nanayakkara, the Former Head of the Department of Computer Engineering of the University of Moratuwa and Mr. Dusty Alahakoon, the Chief Operating Officer at Asia Pacific Brewery (Lanka) Limited together created the speaker panel.

To begin with, Prof. Rahula Attalage gave an insight on the importance of the Mathematics Stream at the Advanced Level and then introduced Engineering to the participants. In his speech, he mentioned the importance of Engineering and its significance in making life simpler for mankind.

Mr. Dusty Alahakoon talked about the available career and higher education opportunities in business and marketing after advanced level examinations. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of having professional experience parallel to the education qualifications.

Then, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarna reminded the audience to pursue their true interests by enlightening them on the importance of passion in their careers or higher education selections. He also spoke about the qualities one should possess for a good career through his experience as a CEO of a highly reputed software company.

Finally, Mrs. Vishaka Nanayakkara gave an insight on the Information and Technology field and gave an overview of the available higher education opportunities on IT. She also explained the best ways to choose among the available opportunities to suit individual requirements.

The seminar was held with the collaboration of EDEX, Sri Lanka’s largest Education & Careers Exhibition. Mr. Upul Pathinagoda and Mr. Dilan Rajapakshe participated in the event representing EDEX Careers and educated the students about the services that are provided by EDEX which they can use to achieve their higher education dreams.

The media coverage for the event was given by Education Times. The entire seminar was web casted live on Dharmawahini and SL2College web sites. The recorded videos will be soon available on SL2College website at www.sl2college.org.

The seminar was the first step of the seminar series which was planned and conducted by SL2College. SL2College, as a dedicated and unbiased community striving to improve higher education in Sri Lanka, started the seminar series “Career and Higher Study Options after Advanced Levels”, and thus successfully concluded its first step towards many more.
