Acclaimed filmmaker Prasanna Jayakody’s second cinematic production ‘Karma’ is now being screened at Regal cinema Colombo and other CEL circuit cinemas around the country.

A nicely woven visual portrait around three main characters, a troubled youth, a musician and his lover, a woman who faces with tragic circumstance comes following Prasanna’s immensely successful debut ‘Sankara’ (Introspection), a film which won a number of awards including the Special Jury Prize- the Silver Pyramid at the Cairo International Film Festivaland the Best Debut Director Award at the International Film Festival of Kerala in 2006.

‘Karma’ narrates around Piyal, 23 years old, troubled by feelings of guilt over his mother’s death, decides to leave his family and moves to an old apartment in the city. He attempts to relieve himself of related and repressed tensions, through Amanda, a woman living in the house adjacent to his apartment. Through brief encounters, Piyal begins to see Amanda as the woman who is able to fill the void that existed within him.

The film stars Michelle herft, Jagath Manuwarna and Nadeeka Guruge while Palitha Perera as cinematographer, Sunil Wijeratne as art director, Bhathiya Dunusinghe, Rangana Sinharage and Sudesh Kumarasinghe as editors and Naradha Thotagamuwa as make-up artiste worked behind the screen of ‘Karma’. Nadeeka Guruge and Sumudu Guruge wrote the musical score to the film which is co-produced by Ceylon Theater Private Limited, Sky Entertainers Private Limited and Magic Lantern Private Limited.
