Musaeus Rowing Team

The tenth Musaeus-Ladies Regatta, a event greatly looked forward by two schools and their followers, is expected to be closely fought out at the Beira Lake on Saturday, October 13.

Out of the races conducted so far Musaeus has won two while Ladies have won six with one race ending in a draw.

Following are pen sketches of the Musaeus and Ladies College rowers.

Musaeus College: Vinuri Wickramasekera (captain). 18 years . Fifth year colours girl. Record holder of the Schools National coxless pair. Has represented the school since 2008.

Naithra Wijemanna (vice captain). Is another 5th year colours holder. At 17 years of age, was a gold medalist at the National Open event in the Coxed Fours. Has been a regular member of the squad from 2008. Janethri Marapana (secretary) 16 years and a second year colours girl. Rowed in the Schools National regatta 2011 and set a new meet record in the double sculls.

Subashini Kularatne 19 years. Captained the team in 2010-2011.

Holds school colours for the past five years. Won a gold medal at the Nationals in the A four event in 2009 and 2010.

Was also adjudged the ‘Best Oarswoman of the year 2010 by the Colombo Rowing Club in 2010.

Pramudi Dias 18 years. A third year colours holder. Participated in the Annual MC/LC regatta since 2009 and coxed the team to win the B Fours in 2010. Pahan Widyalankara 15 years. A second year colours girl. Particapted in the regatta in 2011 and was the stroke.

Dilki Wijayasekera 14 years. Another 2nd year colours. Represented the college last year and was the sculler and bow.

Ladies College Crew

Sarith Ratnayake at the age of 13 years is the ‘Baby’ of the squad as is a first year colours holder.

Ashvini Jayatilake. 14 years. Won her colours last year and strokes for the team.

Janisha Ratnayake. Another 14-year-old. A first year colours holder and participated in the regatta last year and strokes for the squad.

Shavindi Gunaratne. 14 years. Won her colours in 2011 and rowed in the regatta since 2010.

Ranuli Wickramasekera. 14 years. Has rowed in the regatta since 2011.

Megara Wijemanne. 14 years, was the cox at the regatta last year.

Tharushi Delapachithra. 14 years. A fresher and functions as the bow.

Ladies College

Amani Tissera.(captain) 18 years. Fourth year colours woman. Repesented Colombo at the 73rd, 74th and 75th Colombo/Madras Regatta and two LC/MC regattas and two boat races.

Shiyanka De Zylva (vice captain) 18 years. A second year colours holder. Rowed at the 75th Colombo/Madras Regatta. Has also rowed at three LC.MC Regattas and one boat race.

Shiloh Sumanthiran. 18 years. A second year colours woman who rowed at the 75th Colombo/ Madras Regatta and coxed two annual regattas and one boat race.

Sanchia Subramaniam. 18 years. Awarded colours for third year. Rowed one Annual Ladies College/ Musaeus College Regatt.

Ashani Welikala. 17 years. A third year colours holder. Rowed three in LC/MC Regattas.

Dharini Samarasinghe. 17 years. A one year colours holder. Has participated in three annual regattas.

Thiranya Fernando. Age 16 years. A second year colours holder who has rowed at the Nationals.

Isabella Sansoni. 16 years. Received colours for the second year and has rowed in one Annual Regatta.

Anishka Gomesz. 18 years. School colours for the third successive year. Rowed at the 75th Colombo/Madras Regatta and two LC/MC meets.

Anisha Gunasekera. 17 years. Third year colours woman. Has rowed in two LC/MC Regattas and the 75th Colombo/Madras Regatta.

Marinah Idroos. 17 years. A first year colours holder who has rowed in one LC/MC Regatta.

Anoushka Tissera. 16 years. Awarded colours for the second year and has rowed in two Annual Regattas.

Anika Ahamed. 16 years. A first year colours woman.

Tarea Karunaratne. 15 years. First year colours woman.

Tehani Walpola. 15 years. A first year colours woman.

Yellani Rasaputhra. 15 years – Seat – sculler. (BM)
