Moon

Round as peas
Yellow as cheese
As a rat would like to eat
On Saturday with some peace

Sometimes dark as coal
And bright as sunlight
Oh Moon, I wish where do you go
Sleeping at day
And travelling at night
You are the brightest thing at night

Children are the future leaders

Being a leader is not easy. You should have responsibility, commitment, hard work, straightforwardness and many other qualities to be a leader. Present leaders are not going to be leaders forever. In the future, leaders who should have all good qualities are the present children.

In all schools there are many activities, through which children receive opportunities to become leaders. All these are to improve the leadership qualities in children so that they would be able to accept greater responsibilities in the future. Children who make use of these opportunities will surely become future leaders.

Many other good habits are required to be leaders who would impress all the people and be good in their jobs. This is the reason that our parents, teachers and elders strive hard to teach us good values.

A good leader should be able to handle work in a methodical and systematic manner. He or she should have the skill of patience, proper planning, prior preparation and control of emotions. All this is easy to listen to or write but it is not easy practically. But as children we should show others that we can do anything. So let us set a goal to be a good example to other people and to become good leaders in the future!

Our school holidays

We have a long vacation in August. I love it. In the vacation we can read books and play with friends. We can also go on trips.
During this vacation we went to Badulla. Before going we planned how to go and where to stay. We went at 8pm. It was the first time we went in the night and it was very enjoyable. Inside the train it was like daytime. We reached Badulla by about 6 a.m., and we stayed at a hotel that we booked early.

We rested awhile and went to see Dunhinda Falls. It’s about a 1 hour walk. It is misty everywhere. It is the most attractive waterfall I have seen. We rested and took some photographs there.

The next day we went to see the Muthiyangana Temple. On the way back we came in the observation
section of the train. It was a wonderful idea of my father to select those seats.

It is a very beautiful surrounding especially Nanu Oya Station. The Nine Arch Bridge was a beautiful sight. From inside the train we took some photographs. From faraway we saw Horton Plains also. It was a happy journey that I enjoyed a lot.

Reading books is very interesting

Reading books is very good for the mind. It helps you improve in studies. You can learn new words and improve your English. If you want to be a scientist or a doctor, you should read books because books give you many facts.

Books give us a lot of information. If you don’t know the meaning of animals, books can give you the information. If you don’t know how to speak English, a book can teach you how. I love to read books because it is very interesting and helps me to improve in my studies.
