Now phone calls through a dongle

By Quintus Perera

Hutch, seen as the third player or running alongside Airtel in the mobile telecom market, has launched a unique service: taking and receiving calls through the Hutch dongle. This was revealed to the Business Times on the sidelines of the 3G services launched by Hutch Telecom Lanka (Hutch) last week. Sanjaya Senarath, General Manager, Marketing, Hutch said that taking or receiving calls while surfing the internet with Hutch Dongle is a feature not available with other such mobile providers.

The Hutch 3G services were launched in the presence of Dennis Lui, Chairman, Hutchison Telecommunications Group, as Chief Guest. Hutch 3G services though late to come to Sri Lanka, uses the newest technology and offers the consumer higher download and upload speeds, noted Anand Prakash, Chief Operating Officer, Hutchison Telecom Lanka.

Initially Hutch 3G coverage would be limited to the Western Province and then gradually expanded to cover the entire country within a matter of few months. He said that with only around 10 % of the Sri Lankan population having access to the Internet, Hutch sees great opportunity for the growth of its 3G network.
