Away from the hustle and bustle of life

Leaving the rat-race of daily living behind, 20 people opted to devote 10 days to the dhamma. Shaving their heads and observing Dasa Sil under Ven. Tiricunamale Ananda Anu Nayake Thera at Sadaham Sevana down Gothami Road, Borella on May 8, as Vesak the thrice-blessed day came close, they made their way to the Kanduboda Bhavana Centre to engage in meditation.

These lay people know the dhamma but don’t know the shashanika sampradaya, said Ven. Athureliya Rathana Thera who initiated this programme. They will meditate under the guidance of senior monks and attempt to achieve serenity and tranquillity by calming their minds, the Sunday Times understands.

The bhavana will end the day before Vesak, followed by the 20 laymen observing sil once again on Vesak day. They hope to achieve noble qualities so that their behaviour will be noble with metta (loving kindness), karuna (compassion), muditha (sympathetic joy) and upeksha (equanimity).
