Thames College of Further & Higher Education

Thames College, inaugurated on March 24 2010, by the Minister for Science and Technology, Prof. Tissa Vitharana, at 153 1/1, High Level Road, Nugegoda, is located at a place easily accessible to most students, with state-of -the-art infrastructural facilities, and a panel of experienced lecturers and tutors. It is managed by veteran administrators, academicians and counsellors who have many years of experience in dealing with students who are willing to study abroad.

Thames College is the latest project undertaken by Mr Priyantha Padmasiri, Chairman, Thames Group of Companies. A sister company of Thames International, a pioneer in the field of overseas student placement, this is yet another milestone that has been reached through the concerted efforts of the company, in providing the best educational service to the deserving younger generation of our country.

Headed by a team of experts in the field of Further and Higher Education, Thames College will provide students with the opportunity to study the first two years of a programme in Sri Lanka and then transfer to a foreign university for the final year of the Degree programme.

The College will provide university level education in Travel and Tourism, Information Technology, Business, Logistics and later on Law and Health care subjects depending on the demand, equivalent in standard to courses that are being conducted in UK, Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America.

As most of the visa issuing countries require a demonstrable knowledge in comprehension, expression, reading and writing of English, Thames College will cater to coaching students for the IELTS examination. They will be subjected to a placement test to ensure whether they require a two month, one and a half month or one month course of guided instruction, prior to facing the IELTS examination. The students who would want to improve their language skills can take a formal course of Business English etc.

After their one year or two years of successfully following the university education, the College will place them at a university of their choice to complete the degree. Some prestigious universities in UK have already agreed with Thames College to offer their degrees to students who complete their first or second year at Thames College, Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, Thames College will help the government of Sri Lanka, the parents and students to reduce the burden of providing tertiary education to those students who qualify to do higher education, but are taken out of the main stream due to lack of opportunities.
