‘The University of Melbourne hosts event for parents and friends’

The University of Melbourne recently hosted an event for parents and friends at the Crystal Room at the Taj Samudra. The Acting High Commissioner, Ms Sophia McIntyre, gave an introductory speech and welcomed the Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor John Dewar to Sri Lanka.

The Acting High Commissioner also informed those who attended of the education aid that Australia gives to Sri Lanka in the form of Australian Government Scholarships.

This type of aid dates back to post World War 11 when the scholarship programme was known as the Colombo Plan.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor briefed parents and friends on the directions of the University. The University enjoys excellent international rankings and attracts outstanding and diligent Sri Lankan students.
As many parents wait until Graduation Day to visit the University, it was an opportunity for the "University to visit Sri Lanka" and keep parents and friends updated on directions and opportunities available.
It was also an opportunity for parents and friends to meet each other and feel part of the University of Melbourne community.
