Navin and Tehani clinch Janashakthi Squash titles - 7th Janashakthi Open Squash

The curtains of the 7th Janashakthi Squash Open came down yesterday with the favourites Navin Samarasinghe and Tehani Guruge clinching the men’s and women’s titles defeating Binura Jayasuriya and Josefa Bertilsson respectively in the finals played at the Tamil Union C&AC squash court at Borella.
Navin Samarasinghe had an easy passage against Binura Jayasuriya whom he outclassed 3-0 in the five setter final. In contrast Tehani had to pull out all her tricks out of the bag before pulling off a hard fought 3-2 win over her opponent.

In fact Tehani Guruge the former national women’s champion is playing in the local circuit after a lapse of over two years. Tehani is currently based in the USA reading for her degree at Trinity College in USA and is on a vacation of three months. She is expected to go back to the States in August but will be participating in local tournaments. Her opponent Josefa is too based in the overseas and she too is on a vacation and will be leaving the island today to her adopted country Vietnam.

Meanwhile H. R.Laksiri and Dulakshi Elikawela put up impressive performances with the duo snatching a double each. Laksiri clinched the boy’s under 15 and under 17 titles overcoming his opponent with ease while Dulakshi did the same in the girl’s under 15 and under 17 categories winning their matches with the identical margin 3-0.
