The Inter-Provincial T20 cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket and sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom has reached the last stages of the preliminary round matches.

Hirdaramani Ruhuna one of the two unbeaten teams met their waterloo when they were defeated by five wickets by Lanka Bell Wayamba at the SSC grounds yesterday.

Hirdaramani Ruhuna taking first lease of the wicket made 127. Lanka Bell Wayamba chasing the target reached home in the 18th over. In the process they recorded their second win of the tournament.
Being invited to bat first by Wayamba skipper Jehan Mubarak, the Ruhuna side was given a flying start by experience openers Upul Tharanga and veteran Sanath Jayasuriya who added 64 runs in just 36 balls before they were separated. It was Jayasuriya who was out first making a 23 ball knock of 45.
It became a double blow when Tharanga was the next victim with the addition of only two runs. Apart from a 25 runs stand for the third wicket between T.N. Sampath and Indika de Saram they lost three wickets for 19 runs and slid to 110 for 5 in 13th over. They never recovered from that setback as they lost wickets at regular intervals with the remaining five wickets falling for the addition of only 17 runs. They were bowled out for 127 with eight balls remaining.

Hirdaramani Ruhuna 127 in 18.4 overs (Sanath Jayasuriya 45, Indika de Saram 22, Upul Tharanga 15: Ajantha Mendis 3 for 14, Kaushal Lokuarachchi 2 for 16)

Lanka Bell Wayamba 130 for 5 in 17.1 overs (Mahela Udawatte 51, Mahela Jayawardena 37)
Easy win for MAS Holdings Kandurata

MAS Holdings Kandurata coasted to an easy six wicket win over the Schools Invitation XI in their Inter-Provincial T20 encounter at Police Park yesterday.

This was the second win for the winners with the losers crashing to their third successive defeat.
The experience of the MAS Holdings Kandurata was too much for the young Schools Invitation XI who was invited to take first lease of the wicket.

They lost their first wicket in the fourth ball of the first over and found it difficult to come into terms due to some accurate bowling. Just approaching the 15th over, they were struggling on 79 for 6. A stubborn innings of 26 by Chaturanga de Silva ony succeeded a delay, ultimately being able to muster only 101.
Schools Invitation XI 101 for 8 in 20 overs (Chaturanga de Silva 26, Kusal Perera 19, Dinesh Chandimal 18, Bhanuka Rajapakse 17)

MAS Holdings Kandurata 102 for 4 in 12.5 overs (Tharanga Paranavithana 36, Chinthaka Jayasinghe 35 n.o.: Imesh Udayanga 2 for 15)
