ACBT branch in Kandy

In order to meet the growing need for quality education across the country, the Australian College for Business Technology (ACBT) launched their new branch in Kandy, giving an opportunity for easier access to higher education for those in the district.

With an already overwhelming response from potential students and keen parents, the ACBT Kandy College hopes to provide the University Foundation Programme(UFP) and Degree Programmes for close to 1000 students from July onwards.

"We have considered the requirement for people in the region not only the Kandy District, as we have found that there were students travelling from the area to attend classes in our Colombo College," spoke an ACBT official.

The University Foundation Programme (UFP) which is targeted for those completed their O Levels, is an equivalent to the A Levels and is recognized by Australia and the United Kingdom.

The UFP course structure can be completed in Business or Information Technology and requires the student to complete eight (8) units including Accounting, Statistics, Computing and Management.
The IT and Science courses include the completion of Communication skills, Advanced Mathematics and Biology, Physics and Chemistry respectively.

Moreover, ACBT will also be offering Degree programmes including the Diploma of Business to Bachelor of Business as well as the Diploma of Computing to Bachelor of Computer Science at the Kandy College for those who have completed their A Levels.

Two major disciplines of Study are available Management and Marketing with the Diploma and Bachelor of Business, and students will be able to choose a single major or double major that can be completed in three years. Subjects would include Accounting, Economics, e-Business Systems, Finance, Human Resource Management, Management Law, Strategic Management in the Management Major. The Marketing Major will go on to include Applied Marketing, Buyer Behaviour, International Marketing and Marketing Strategy within the three year Degree.

The Diploma and Bachelor in Computing would include a Computer Science Major which has units in Operating Systems, Systems and Database Design, Computer Security and Intelligent Systems. Furthermore, the Software Engineering Major includes units in Data Structures, Component Based Software Engineering and Application Development.

"Furthermore, we felt the need for an English Course for students to further their knowledge in order to facilitate their higher studies," the official continued adding that variety of English Language Programmes are available at the Kandy College.

The ACBT said that they are already started IELTS Testing in the College and conducting IELTS preparation courses as well. Importantly, ACBT is among one of the only two authorized IELTS testing institutions in Sri Lanka.
