CID to grill Kotelawala

The Criminal Investigation Department is to record a statement from Ceylinco Chief Lalith Kotelawala in remand but warded at the Merchant’s Ward of Colombo National hospital where he was receiving treatment for a heart ailment, over the Golden Key fraud case.

He had given a statement to the police earlier but a further statement is to be recorded, a senior Police official told The Sunday Times adding that they are also considering questioning doctors treating Mr Kotelawala, as he had declined to give a statement from the hospital bed due to the ailment.

On Thursday a bail application was filed on his behalf in the Colombo High Court which is to be taken up on March 11, the day the case comes up in the Mount Lavinia courts. On the previous occasion, his counsel did not appeal for bail nor did the Attorney General make a request that he be remanded. In another move Nihal Mahinda Peiris, a senior director, has been appointed as the acting Deputy Chairman of the Golden Key Credit Card Company recently.
