Lyceum Wattala makes history

Lyceum International School, Wattala once again etched its name in the sporting history by securing the Overall Championship at the International Schools Athletic Championship (ISAC) for an extraordinary 16th consecutive year. This remarkable achievement stands as a powerful reflection of excellence, discipline, and the unwavering spirit that defines the Lyceum Wattala community.

Competing against leading international schools and some of the nation’s finest young athletes, Lyceum Wattala delivered an outstanding performance across a wide range of track and field events over the two days which the competition was held. The team’s dominance throughout event showcased months of rigorous training, exceptional teamwork, and an unbreakable determination to uphold the school’s proud sporting legacy.

The championship witnessed several exceptional individual and team accomplishments, highlighting the depth of talent within the Lyceum Wattala athletic squad. Special award winners and championship highlights were, the Under-12 Boy’s Age Group Championship was won by Thiven Kannangara, while the Under-18 Boy’s Age group Championship was won by Naveen Rajapaksha.

The Under-20 Girl’s Age Group Championship was won by Sanugi Thennakoon, while Lyceum Wattala went on to become the Under-14 Overall Champion, Under-16 Overall Champion, Under-18 Overall Champion and the Under- Overall Champion, in addition to claiming the Overall Relay Championship. Risansa Silva was crowned the Best Female Athlete for her performance in Under-20 100m event, recording 11.88 seconds. The total points claimed Lyceum Wattala was 960 which comprised 45 gold, 25 silver and 30 bronze medals.

This historic success would not have been possible without the visionary leadership and continuous encouragement of Founder Dr. Mohanlal Grero, Consultant Coordinating Principal Dr. Kumari Grero, Group Chairman and CEO of Lyceum Global Holdings Nikitha Grero, Senior Vice President – Sports Sameera Hewage, Coordinating Principal Kumari Wijerathne and Principal Stella Anton.

The dedication of the management, sports department, coaches, and both academic and non-academic staff played a pivotal role in shaping this achievement. The school also extends its heartfelt appreciation to the parents whose constant support and motivation inspire students to pursue excellence both on and off the field.

Winning the ISAC Championship for the 16th consecutive year was more than a victory for Lyceum Wattala, as it was a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of greatness that continues to define the bond as a family. As the champions look toward the future, this milestone stands as a proud reminder that excellence is not a moment, but a tradition.
